Report: Saints dealt blow in pursuit of ruck signing

2019-08-01T18:00+10:00

St Kilda has been dealt a blow in its search for a ruckman, according to AFL.com.au reporter Marc McGowan, with targets Todd Goldstein and Sam Draper both set to remain with their current clubs.

The Saints were looking to bring Draper in on a four-year deal in excess of $400,000 a year, while the Goldstein pursuit was set to be a multi-year deal for the 31-year-old who is out-of-contract with North Melbourne.

Draper, who is also out of contract, looks set to re-sign with the Bombers, turning down the big money offer from the Saints.

Goldstein has expressed his desire to remain with the Kangaroos for the remainder of his career and there is thought to be a two-year deal on the table.

The Saints’ need for a ruckman may have been placated in recent weeks with the emergence of Rowan Marshall who can win the hitouts and the ground ball.

Marshall has averaged 17.3 disposals and 28.8 hitouts across 16 games this season and the 23-year-old is emerging as a favourite for the Saints best and fairest.
