Report: Grundy, Pies in contract stalemate

2019-08-06T07:00+10:00

Superstar ruckman Brodie Grundy is reportedly unhappy with Collingwood's latest contract offer.

According to Channel 7 reporter Tom Browne, money isn't the stumbling block, with the Pies' offer believed to be around the $850,000 mark.

Browne claims the Magpies have put a three-year deal in front of last year's Copeland Trophy winner, who is contracted until the end of 2020.

He says Grundy is seeking a six or seven-year deal.

"The Pies did have a chance to get this done at the start of the year, they've now missed out on that chance," Browne told Talking Footy.

"I don't think he think's this is a respectable offer, I think he's a bit miffed by it, to be honest."

Adelaide has been rumoured to be keen on the South Australian, however, that interest may have cooled, given the outstanding recent form of youngster Reilly O'Brien, who is keeping veteran big man Sam Jacobs out of the side.

Widely regarded as the best ruckman in the competition, Grundy has played 127 games since being drafted to Collingwood with Pick 18 in 2012.

He is averaging 21 disposals in 2019, the most of any ruckman, and is second in hitouts (with 41.5 per game) and hitouts to advantage (12.3 per game).

Grundy, 25, won his first All Australian blazer in 2018.
