Geelong are set to target North Melbourne star Shaun Higgins who is yet to agree to terms on a new contract with the Kangaroos.
According to Channel Seven’s Tom Browne, Higgins is after a two-year extension with the Roos only prepared to offer an extra year at this stage.
The two-time best and fairest winner and one-time All-Australian is contracted at Arden Street for another season.
Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon believes the midfielder is within his rights to ask for a multi-year deal.
"I think two years at 31 is fair and reasonable," Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
The 31-year-old was drafted to the Western Bulldogs with pick No.11 via the Geelong Falcons in 2005.
With Tim Kelly and Gary Ablett yet to re-sign beyond this season, the Cats could turn to Higgins if they lose the star pair.
Geelong are also the favourites to land St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven.
