CEO confirms Cats remain outside chance to host home final

2019-08-14T19:19+10:00

Geelong CEO Brian Cook has confirmed the AFL are yet to make a final decision on whether the club will play a home final at GMHBA Stadium.

Several reports indicated the AFL had denied the Cats the chance to host a qualifying final at Kardinia Park with the MCG the likely venue due to its seating capacity of over 100,000.

Geelong are currently top of the ladder and look likely to secure a top-two finish.

“I received a phone call from the AFL this morning saying that it was reported wrongly,” Cook told SEN’s Time On.

“I still think we are in with a chance, not a big chance.

“I’m just leaving it up to the AFL for now because in reality we’ve got to concentrate on other things like trying to win the next two games.

“I’ve decided that we need to concentrate on things we can control than things that we can’t control.

“Having said that, the AFL have not made a decision about the Geelong Football Club not playing a home final down at GMHBA.”

Geelong face Brisbane in a top-of-the-table blockbuster at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon.
