"I'll be playing footy for the Adelaide Crows": Betts shuts down trade rumours

2019-08-14T11:52+10:00

Eddie Betts has denied reports that he will be exiting Adelaide at the end of the season.

Reports circled that Carlton was one of six teams pursuing the 32-year-old, but he has quickly shut down the talk.

"I'm contracted to the Adelaide Football Club and I'll be playing footy for the Adelaide Crows," Betts told FIVEaa.

"There's been a lot of rumours the last couple of weeks about me leaving, which (are) completely untrue.

Betts, who is contracted with the Crows for 2020, said he likely won’t even meet with other teams.

"No, I don't think I'll be sitting down and talking to the other clubs," Betts said.

"I have spoken to Don Pyke and Brett Burton … and they said, 'You're a required player here at the Adelaide Footy Club next year'.

"I've got a young family, and it's a big decision if you want to pack up and leave."

The veteran small forward admitted the rumours got to him and left him frustrated.

"It drains the hell out of you," he said.

"They could see it was affecting me, especially Don.

"He could see I was agitated and because these rumours have come out, I wanted the footy club to tell me, 'You're a required player here, we don't want to get rid of you', which was good."
