Wallace breaks down key factor in Brisbane versus Geelong clash

2019-08-17T13:15+10:00

Brisbane and Geelong meet this afternoon in a battle between the two top teams on the ladder.

It will be a huge test for the young Lions to see where they fall in the pecking order, while the Cats also must prove they’re tracking towards their best form come September.

Australian football Hall of Famer Terry Wallace is tipping Geelong, but does have one concern – the Queensland heat.

“I’ve actually selected Geelong, but the biggest worry for me is the weather,” Wallace told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“To me, 27 degrees coming out of Melbourne is harder than playing in 40 degrees in the JLT Series.

“It’s just such a difference in the temperature aspect of it.

“I like what Geelong did last week, putting a couple of the quicks back in the line-up. I like the competitiveness of Mark Blicavs in the ruck.

“I just think it might be a Geelong win, but if they don’t do it early, Brisbane will come over the top of them, particularly in the heat.”

Brisbane CEO Greg Swann also hopes the heat will provide some assistance to his side this afternoon.

“You’d think (the weather will be a challenge for travelling teams),” he said.

“I ran into a couple of Geelong people yesterday and they just loved having a bit of sun on their back, but it’ll be different when you’re running around on a footy ground.

“I watched the Geelong game last week and I think they had four or five guys with long sleeves and I think it was pretty miserable and cold so this is a big contrast.

“We’re certainly used to it and we hope that’s an advantage to us.”

The weather in Brisbane is currently 26 degrees with 31 per cent humidity and it is not expected to get much warmer than that.
