Burgoyne “very close” to formalising Gold Coast move

2019-08-27T08:34+10:00

Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne is close to finalising a move to Gold Coast, according to Herald Sun journalist Sam Edmund.

Burgoyne, 36, has been previously linked with the Suns in a mentor-type role to help guide the club’s young playing group in 2020.

The out-of-contract Hawk has been offered a three-year deal in a player-coach position.

“I’m hearing Shaun Burgoyne is very, very close to being formalised as a recruit at the Gold Coast Suns,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“I’ve been told it’s a three-year deal to join the Suns and reunite with the CEO Mark Evans. There would be a coaching component involved in that as well.

“It would be a great get for the Gold Coast Suns, that’s no secret. I think it’s really, really close.”

Burgoyne averaged 16.2 disposals and 3.7 tackles from his 18 games in 2019.

The four-time premiership player finished the year on 376 matches having broken Adam Goodes’ record as the Indigenous games record-holder.
