Australia has named a 12-man squad for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford starting Wednesday.
Usman Khawaja has been dropped after averaging 20.33 in six innings with run machine Steve Smith his replacement.
Smith returns from concussion and will bat at No.4 with Marnus Labuschagne likely to be elevated to No.3.
James Pattinson has also been left out with Mitchell Starc a chance to play his first Test of the series.
Australia require one more win to retain the Ashes with the series tied at 1-1.
