Adelaide CEO comments on Eddie Betts trade speculation

2019-09-05T10:10+10:00

Adelaide CEO Andrew Fagan says veteran forward Eddie Betts is not up for trade.

Betts’ name has been linked to the Gold Coast as well as a return to his old club, Carlton, despite being contracted with the Crows until the end of 2020.

When asked about Betts’ future, Fagan was confident that the 32-year-old would stay at the Crows.

“I don’t really have an update on it,” Fagan told SEN SA Breakfast.

“He’s obviously contracted for 2020 and unless something changes, there’s not much more I can add.

“I think he’s made that comment clear himself.

“We certainly haven’t put him on the trade table so unless something changes, I can’t really add more to that statement.”

Fagan was also asked about whether Betts was unhappy at the Crows.

“Look, I don’t think he’s probably enjoyed the last couple of years, as much as he’d like to, and he’s not alone in that,” he said.

“I think if you spoke to probably the majority of the playing group, they’d say the last couple of years haven’t been as exciting as 2016 or 2017 when we were more successful, so I think he shares in that.

“He loves football, he plays best when he’s happy.

“He probably hasn’t been exactly in the place he wants to be in the last couple of years but he’s not alone in that.

“I love Eddie, we’re there to support him. I know the fans love him.”
