The favourite to land off-contract Crow

2019-09-11T18:23+10:00

GWS are the frontrunner to land veteran Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs, according to AFL.com.au reporter Mitch Cleary.

The 31-year-old is unlikely to be at West Lakes next season with reports indicating he has met with former club Carlton over a potential return to Ikon Park.

Cleary feels the Giants are more likely to secure the off-contract Crow with former teammate and GWS captain Phil Davis endorsing the move behind the scenes.

“I think it is GWS,” Cleary told SEN SA’s Kymbo and The Rooch.

“Phil Davis has definitely been in the ear of Wayne Campbell, Leon Cameron, Dave Matthews and the guys at the Giants to say: ‘How about my old mate Sauce? Offer him two years and I think he might have a bit more left in the tank’.

“If you can get that second-year guarantee, it’s probably the reason why we’re seeing Paddy Ryder do similar at St Kilda.

“Definitely not ruling out the Carlton move but I think they’ve got other priorities when it comes to the ruck, there’s a young ruckman at Sydney called Darcy Cameron that they’re well and truly in to.

“But I think the Giants are more on the cards than the Blues.”

Jacobs was overtaken by improved ruckman Reilly O'Brien in the pecking order at Adelaide, playing just five senior games in 2019.

He has played 201 matches since debuting in 2009.
