Star Adelaide defender a "trade possibility": Russell

2019-09-12T10:05+10:00

SEN’s Dwayne Russell is reporting that Adelaide defender Rory Laird could depart the Crows as part of a mass exit at the club.

Laird is a two-time All-Australian and two-time club best and fairest, so Russell expects Adelaide to receive a high draft pick in return, if he is to be traded.

But Russell believes the 25-year-old won’t be the only one on the way out at Adelaide.

“I’m hearing there could be at least 10 or even more players leaving the Crows at the end of this review,” he told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“The latest big name out of nowhere that could be leaving the Adelaide Crows, according to the rumours that are circulating to me, is Rory Laird.

“Rumours are circulating with the people that are in pretty high places that I’m speaking to that Rory Laird could be a trade possibility.

“It’ll be a top 10 pick as a trade pick for the Adelaide Crows if they do trade him.

“I’m hearing the Cats might be a contender. Laird’s old teammate Patrick Dangerfield calls a few of the shots at the Cats.

“The Cats will get a good pick or two because they’ll trade Tim Kelly back to the west.”

Laird is contracted until the end of 2021, but Russell believes he could be in different club colours next year.

Eddie Betts, Sam Jacobs, Alex Keath, Hugh Greenwood, Darcy Fogarty, Josh Jenkins and Bryce Gibbs have also been linked to a move out of the club.
