Adelaide chairman admits infamous pre-season camp has "dogged" club

Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman has admitted the infamous pre-season camp has “dogged” the club.

The 'Collective Minds' camp reportedly left players physically and emotionally distressed leading into the 2018 season.

The issue was raised again when Crows coach Don Pyke resigned from his position on Thursday afternoon, as he was one of the people who oversaw the camp.

In the wake of Pyke's resignation, Chapman told Sportsday the impact of the camp had taken its toll.

“It’s been distracting,” Chapman said.

“We can’t hide from the fact it’s been distracting for the coach, it’s been distracting for players, it’s been distracting for our supporters and members.

“We’ve got to own some of that. We had two inquiries into this. We did our own professional standards and integrity inquiry, the AFL sent its own integrity department into it and both cleared the club of anything that was wrong so we don’t want to relitigate any of this.

“But whatever the reasons, we’ve got to own it - it has dogged us, there’s no denying it.

“One of the main reasons I chose an independent third party review, which from my perspective and experience is global-best practice, was to come in and underline it.

“Then if there are issues, we’ll deal with it and then we move on because we have to move on. I think this review will underline it.”

Adelaide will now begin an extensive search for a new coach.

AFL greats Jason Dunstall and Matthew Pavlich are two of the members on the panel in the club's external review.
