Could Higgins end up at Geelong after all?

2019-09-16T09:02+10:00

SEN Breakfast newsman Sam Edmund has provided an update on the curious situation surrounding North Melbourne’s Shaun Higgins.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to a Geelong, despite remaining contracted with the Roos for another year.

“Plenty of people around this are convinced he’s going to Geelong already, but the official word is it’s still being worked out,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“The facts are that Higgins is contracted until the end of 2020 and North has made an offer to extend that until 2021.

“It’s not all about the money, Higgins is well setup away from the game, but we’re hearing he wants more than 2021.

“He would be 34 in March of 2022, but you get the feeling he could play for a long time.

“Geelong are the big players here. They’ve come really hard. Higgins is from that part of the world, he played for the Geelong Falcons, a lot of his family is still down there.

“His intention has always been to be a North player, to work it out with is current club, but how’s these for a set of challenges Higgins and his management team have been faced with?

“The GM of football Cameron Joyce is gone. The chief executive Carl Dilena is gone. The list manager Michael McMahon has gone. The new GM of football Brady Rawlings hasn’t even started and won’t until December. Who are they even talkg to down there? No wonder it is dragging on.”

Geelong looks set to lose midfielder Tim Kelly, but could potentially add Higgins from North Melbourne and Jack Steven from St Kilda.
