North Melbourne coach comments on Wood trade speculation

2019-09-20T10:10+10:00

North Melbourne coach Rhyce Shaw says fringe forward Mason Wood knows his status at the club.

Wood has been linked to a trade out of the Kangaroos, with Fremantle reportedly interested in the 26-year-old.

“Mason knows where he sits at our club,” Shaw told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s contracted for next year so we’re just looking to improve our list as much as we can.

“We’ll go through the process and whatever will be will be. Everyone knows where they sit.”

It’s been a hectic year for the Kangaroos, with a new coach coming into the club to ignite their push for finals.

They ultimately fell short, finishing 12th on the ladder with 10 wins and 12 losses.

With the year they had, Shaw stressed the importance of his players taking a break at this time of year.

“I was really keen for our players to get away,” he said.

“There’s been a couple in the gym this week and it just doesn’t sit right with me because it has been a big year for our footy club and for the players especially.

“I was really keen for them to get away and make sure they get a good break so they can come back really fresh and raring to go.

“I know they’re really keen to get back into it.”
