Report: More clubs join Melbourne in chasing signature of Pies livewire

2019-09-22T12:00+10:00

Channel 7’s Tom Browne is reporting that the race for Jamie Elliott’s signature has heated up, with Melbourne not the only club interested in the Collingwood forward.

Elliott, 27, is out-of-contract at the end of this season, and with the Pies’ year now over, more clubs are in the hunt for him.

“The race for Elliott has heated up this morning,” Browne told Channel 7’s Game Day.

“Melbourne are offering three years, Collingwood are offering two.

“My understanding is this: multiple clubs, with money, are interested in Elliott.

“The main ones would be Hawthorn, potentially with salary cap space, also the Bulldogs and North Melbourne, so I think there will be a real race for Elliott now in coming weeks.

“He’s really proved his worth again after those injuries in recent weeks.”

Browne believes Elliott isn’t intending on leaving the Pies, but does want to play for the right price.

“Collingwood’s got tight salary space, Melbourne’s got tight salary cap space, I don’t think he wants to go somewhere else but he’d obviously want to maximise, at some point, his value,” he said.

“Collingwood are not in the position to offer perhaps as much money as he’d like at the moment.”

Elliott has played 103 games for Collingwood since 2012.
