King names his "point of difference" in the GWS midfield

2019-09-23T11:05+10:00

North Melbourne premiership player David King believes Zac Williams will be a key player in the GWS midfield in Saturday’s Grand Final.

In the absence of Toby Greene (suspension), Stephen Coniglio (knee) and Lachie Whitfield (appendix) for their four-point Preliminary Final win over Collingwood, Williams was moved into the midfield.

After starring at half-back throughout the year, the 25-year-old took his game to another level against the Pies with 25 disposals, 16 contested possessions and one goal.

King believes Williams should play in the midfield on Saturday, even if Coniglio, Greene and Whitfield return.

“I think Zac Williams is their point of difference in the midfield,” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“He has to be part of this centre bounce crew on the weekend.

“Not just his pure kicking, but his speed, the threat to run someone down.

“He ran (Taylor) Adams down a couple of times on the weekend.

“It was the perfect match-up because Adams is going to get some ball, he’s a tough player, he’s hard to stop and Williams was the same, he was going to get some ball.

“But if you compare the two outputs post-possession, Williams was a star on the weekend, probably best on ground.

“You can’t take him out of the midfield after a performance like that.

“If he goes to half-back, I’ll be really disappointed.”

The Giants will face Richmond in their first Grand Final on Saturday at 2.30pm AEST at the MCG.
