“He’ll play": Giants issue updates on Whitfield and Davis

2019-09-25T18:42+10:00

GWS' GM of Football Wayne Campbell has confirmed Lachie Whitfield will play in Saturday’s Grand Final against Richmond.

Whitfield completed today’s main training session after missing last week’s preliminary final win over Collingwood with appendicitis.

“He’ll play,” Campbell told SEN’s Time On.

“He trained today and got through well. So baring any mishaps, he’ll certainly line up on Saturday.

“He might still have a bit of pain but nothing he won’t be able to withstand.”

Campbell also expects co-captain Phil Davis to shake off a calf complaint and take his place in the side.

“He’ll play,” he said.

“He had that tight calf and he’s done everything right as you do for every game, but a Grand Final is a bit different.

"He’s done even more than that in terms of treatment, icing, training and hyperbaric chambers. We’re confident he’ll play.”

GWS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio was ruled out of this weekend’s decider due to a knee injury.

Star midfield-forward Toby Greene will return after serving his one-match suspension.
