Veteran list manager Chris Pelchen believes Hawthorn will attempt to poach Noah Anderson in this year’s AFL draft which would involve a deal with the Gold Coast Suns.
Anderson's father Dean played in two premierships with Hawthorn but is ineligible under the father-son rule having not played 100 games for the Hawks and the main reason Hawthorn would need to trade to get him to the club.
Pelchen suggested the Hawks would try to deal with the Suns for pick 2 which was handed to the struggling Queensland club as a priority pick following yet another poor season.
"Pick two I think you'll find will become part of a super deal and I think Hawthorn will lead the way with it to be honest if I was calling it before the trade period officially starts,” Pelchen told SEN’s The Sporting Capital on Monday night.
“Hawthorn will be very keen to get Noah Anderson to their team and they’ll be putting forward deals to the Suns to try and incorporate pick 2 into some deal.”
He added the obvious one-two pick involving Matthew Rowell and his close friend Anderson was not as straight forward as many would think given the Suns lack of established mature footballers.
“There will be a flurry of activity with the Suns of clubs approaching them trying to get those picks and I think they’ll be trying to turn at least two of those picks inside the top 20 into established players.
“When I say at least two they may well and try to trade a third to get other picks back.
"I can’t see them trading away all those picks. I can’t see them trading away pick 1. I know clubs will approach them for pick 1, but I see that pick for Matt Rowell and he’ll be up on the Gold Coast next year."
Anderson was a key player in the Oakleigh Chargers TAC Cup premiership winning 2019 season.
