Off-contract Blue meets with Essendon

2019-10-02T19:17+10:00

Off-contract Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips has reportedly met with Essendon over a potential move this upcoming trade period.

According to AFL.com.au’s Mitch Cleary, Phillips is pushing for a two-year extension to stay at the Blues, but has only been offered a one-year deal as things stand.

“He (Phillips) is No.2 in their pecking order behind Matthew Kreuzer. He has only been offered a one-year deal as it sits by Carlton,” Cleary told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

“He is looking for two years for greater security; he is 28 years of age … he wants two seasons to play on at AFL level. He has met with Essendon.

“The Bombers missed out on Paddy Ryder, so they are looking at Andrew Phillips to potentially fill that role (ruck depth).”

The 201cm Blue has played 27 games since arriving at Ikon Park from GWS at the end of 2015.

Phillips made just five senior appearances in 2019.
