The type of player Bombers should target in trade period: Dal Santo

2019-10-03T13:19+10:00

Nick Dal Santo has continued his analysis of all 18 teams on Telstra AFL Trade Radio with Essendon in the crosshairs this morning.

The Saints champion said the Bombers should be looking to bolster up their midfield which he believes lacks depth.

A hard-bodied inside midfielder in the mould of Luke Parker is the suggestion put forth by Dal Santo.

“Their midfield is okay, but doesn’t have enormous depth,” he said.

“Zac Merrett love him. Dylan Shiel. (Dyson) Heppell is brave but he’s not the prime mover anymore. Dylan Clarke, I’ve liked him since coming into the team and doing more of a negating role. Andy McGrath you’d like to go to the next level next year and Zaharakis pinch hits a little bit.

“But when I’m talking about what the Bobmers need and what style of player. It’s Luke Parker from the Sydney Swans.

“(He is) hard, he can get the football, he distributes it really well by hand and gets forward and kicks goals.”

Dal Santo added the Bombers would also need to look at their ruck stocks in the trade period.

“The ruck concerns me if (Thomas) Bellchambers goes down,” Dal Santo added.

“They re-signed Sam Draper during the year with a lot of speculation that the Saints were coming hard at him.

“If they rate him that highly after the injuries that he’s had, I like that. I want to see this kid get an opportunity when his body is ready to go.”
