WA draft prospect "a captain in the Luke Hodge mould": Twomey

2019-10-04T14:39+10:00

WA under-18 captain Deven Robertson is a player to keep an eye on during the upcoming National Draft.

Robertson won the Larke Medal as the best player in the Under-18 Championships, breaking former No.1 pick Sam Walsh’s record for the most disposals in a four-match carnival.

The midfielder suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that required a reconstruction in August.

AFL draft expert Cam Twomey says Robertson’s leadership style is in the mould of retired AFL great Luke Hodge.

“We’ve mentioned Deven Robertson before and he’s a prospect we haven’t seen much of in the second half of the season,” Twomey told SEN Afternoons.

“He won the Larke Medal playing for WA at the carnival, he led them to their under-18 title win – he is a captain in the Luke Hodge mould.

“He’s a really popular kid, he plays through the midfield, he’s a tough prospect, so he’s someone who won’t get forgotten by recruiters that’s for sure.”

Robertson is the nephew of West Coast premiership defender and club great Darren Glass.

He averaged 30 possessions, 4.8 clearances and 6.8 tackles in this year's title-winning campaign for WA.
