Grant Birchall is weighing up whether to remain at Hawthorn amid interest from Brisbane and Gold Coast.
According to AFL.com.au’s Mitch Cleary, Birchall’s manager Shane Casely confirmed his client has a one-year offer on the table from the Hawks.
The four-time premiership Hawk is an unrestricted free agent and has been dogged by knee and soft tissue injuries over the last three years.
“The news we can tell you is that Grant Birchall is tonight weighing up his football future and will determine tomorrow morning where he wants to play and chase a fifth AFL premiership,” Cleary told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.
“Shane Casley (Birchall’s manager) says he and Birchall have spoken to three or four different clubs. There’s interest from Brisbane, Gold Coast, he also now has the option to stay at the Hawthorn Football Club.
“Despite what Graham Wright said via the Hawks on Monday, Shane Casley, being Birchall’s manager, believes there is now an option for Grant Birchall to remain at the Hawks.”
A champion of the club, Birchall, 31, has played 248 games in the brown and gold since selected with pick No.14 in the 2005 AFL Draft.
The free agency period concludes in the next 48 hours.
