Power will play hardball on deal for contracted tall: Cornes

2019-10-10T13:28+11:00

Port Adelaide will demand a first-round pick from St Kilda in a deal involving Dougal Howard, according to Kane Cornes.

Howard has expressed a desire to join the Saints with three years left on his contract at Alberton.

The 23-year-old swingman played 15 games in 2019 but co-captain Tom Jonas and Tom Clurey were preferred in the two key defensive posts.

Port is set to play hardball with St Kilda at the negotiation table.

“He’s not going anywhere, this is my information, unless it’s a first-round pick,” Cornes told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

“That’s where they see him. Unless it’s something significant - which they’re saying is a first-round pick - Dougal Howard won’t be traded.

“It’s not going to be a pick 30. My chats with Port Adelaide are unless it’s a first-round pick, don’t bother coming to us on a contracted player.”

Howard has played 45 games in five seasons for Port Adelaide.
