Contracted Magpie weighing up Dockers offer

2019-10-15T09:14+11:00

The manager of James Aish has confirmed his client has a three-year offer on the table from Fremantle.

Liam Pickering says Dockers coach Justin Longmuir is “desperately keen” to land the Collingwood utility as he weighs up his plans for 2020.

The two worked together during Longmuir’s time as an assistant coach at the Holden Centre.

"He's been approached by Fremantle to go and play there for three years," Pickering told SEN Breakfast.

"Justin Longmuir, who's come from Collingwood, is desperately keen to get him there.

"He's had a few chats with Fremantle now. It's only happened over the weekend … it's his decision."

Pickering says the Magpies won’t stand in Aish’s way if he does decide to explore a move.

"We've been trying to extend him, and Collingwood have been pretty up front about it and said 'look, we wouldn't be able to do anything until potentially this time next year'," Pickering said.

"(They said) 'If there's somewhere else that you're going to be guaranteed to play and is going to be a good opportunity for you, we won't stand in your way'. And we know Longmuir loves him, yeah.

"It's up to him what he wants to do. He can stay at Collingwood and run the gauntlet (or leave).”

Aish, 23, joined Collingwood from Brisbane at the end of 2015 and has played a total of 82 AFL games.

He was selected by the Lions with pick No.7 in the 2013 draft.
