New Fremantle midfielder Blake Acres has revealed where he was when he found out he would be playing a role in St Kilda’s acquisition of Brad Hill.
Acres was traded to the Dockers as part of a complicated deal that allowed Hill to get to the Saints and says he was in the gym at Moorabbin when he first found out.
“I wasn’t expecting to come back to Perth this early but Freo have given me an awesome opportunity, it was hard not to turn down the offer,” he told reporters.
“I was at the Saints doing a gym session when I got the call, my first reaction was a bit shocked but I’m feeling the love now and I’m excited.
“I’ve always wanted to finish my career here so I’m excited now that I am back home.”
Acres, who grew up in Western Australia and played for West Perth, is excited about the prospect of taking part in a Derby.
“I hadn’t really thought about it until a couple of hours ago, it’s something you dream about playing in and I can’t wait to if I get the opportunity,” he said.
“Wherever my role is I’m happy to play but I’m looking forward to settling on a wing or as an inside mid.”
He played 75 games for the Saints, including 19 in 2019.
