Why Bennell and the Swans make a good fit

2019-10-22T10:30+11:00

Nick Dal Santo believes the Sydney Swans would be a good fit for recently delisted Docker Harley Bennell.

Bennell, who was chosen with pick two by the Gold Coast Suns in the 2010 national draft, has had his share of on-field and off-field issues, but Dal Santo believes the Swans would be perfect for the midfielder.

“The Sydney Swans … what we hear about their culture and their leadership and accountability, is one of the great clubs to go to, to conform and fit into their structure. Harley Bennell fits that mould up there in Sydney,” Dal Santo told SEN Breakfast.

“Everything has a value … are you prepared to take the risk and the possible upside of a Harley Benell if you don’t have to pay a lot for him?"

“If he’s going to cost you a fortune it’s a completely different conversation – but he’s not going to cost you a fortune."

Herald Sun journalist Sam Edmund says Bennell has met with Sydney champion Josh Kennedy over a potential move.

“Josh Kennedy met with him personally … and the Swans have long been sounding out former teammates," Edmund said.

“I think they might take a punt."

Bennell played two games for Fremantle since being drafted to the Dockers in 2016 due a serious ongoing calf issue.
