Langer addresses Lynn’s selection dismay

2019-10-23T11:15+11:00

Australia coach Justin Langer says Chris Lynn knows where he stands after he was left out of the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Lynn voiced his frustration with the lack of communication from the selectors, particularly selector chairman Trevor Hohns, following his non-selection for the T20 internationals.

“He and I are crystal clear on why he wasn’t in the World Cup squad and therefore the T20s leading up to that,” Langer told SEN’s Whateley.

“We know how dynamic he is, we know he has an unbelievable Big Bash record and I can’t wait to see how he goes this Big Bash.

“When you’ve got openers like David Warner and Aaron Finch, we’ve got Steve Smith coming back in, we’ve got Glenn Maxwell, it’s really competitive - and it should be in Australian cricket.

“It’s so competitive in Australian cricket, he’s going to have to force one of those guys out and to do that you’ve got to perform.”

The fact Lynn is currently not plying his trade his trade in Australia makes it “more difficult” to consider him for selection, according to Langer.

“Traditionally, Australian selectors have always picked players straight out of the domestic system,” he said.

“Having said that, we don’t live in a traditional world anymore.

“I’m seeing guys, whether it’s players or coaches, have opportunities. Whether it’s in the new 100 league, whether it’s in T20 competitions around the world.

"It makes it more difficult, there’s no doubt about that."

Lynn initially committed to playing in the Euro T20 League and Afghanistan Premier League instead of playing domestic 50-over cricket for Queensland.
