Bruce McAvaney to join Whateley and SEN on Melbourne Cup day

2019-10-28T09:27+11:00

Gerard Whateley will be joined by a very special guest when SEN broadcasts the Melbourne Cup live from Flemington next Tuesday.

Channel 7’s Bruce McAvaney will join the SEN Melbourne Cup coverage and along with SEN’s chief sports broadcaster Whateley, will share with listeners what takes place on racing’s greatest day.

“I’m excited, obviously. It would have felt strange not working on that day. I’m looking forward to being alongside you,” McAvaney said on SEN’s Whateley.

“It’s still my favourite day, it will always be that in Australian sport. It’s the day I look forward to most, it changes lives.

“This is the biggest one of them all and it would be strange not being involved. There’ll be a day where I won’t (be involved), but thankfully to you and Hutchy (Craig Hutchison) and to Lewis Martin from Channel 7, it’s been able to happen.

“I’m very enthusiastic and can’t wait.”

The broadcast will begin with Whateley’s morning show from 9am and continue on into the day for all the colour, analysis and excitement in the lead-up to the much-anticipated Melbourne Cup - the jewel in the spring racing crown.

Whateley and McAvaney will be joined by Simon O’Donnell, David Taggart, Trent Masenhelder and Elly Wicks plus leading jockeys and trainers and other special guests throughout the day.

The broadcast on Tuesday, November 5 can be heard on 1116 SEN, listen live on SEN.com.au, SEN SA (from midday) and the SEN app.
