Essendon attempted stunning swoop on veteran ruckman: Edmund

2019-10-28T08:29+11:00

SEN Breakfast newsman Sam Edmunds has revealed Essendon made a stunning play to lure Aaron Sandilands out of retirement.

The Fremantle veteran called time on his career during the 2019 season, but the Bombers seemingly wished to add to their ruck stocks.

“Essendon tried to lure Aaron Sandilands out of retirement to fill its ruck void,” Edmund said.

“It’s only been a year since Shane Mumford was lured out of retirement by GWS.

“The Bombers made a play for Sandilands who is 36, 37 in December.

“He completed a medical under the eyes of Essendon’s medical stuff and passed it.

“The deal fell over because Sandilands wanted a two-year contract to move away from Perth where he’s been his entire career.

“He’s thinking I’m happy here in retirement, if you want me, pony up for two years, and Essendon said no.”
