AFL draft expert Callum Twomey believes West Australian Luke Jackson is in the mix for the Demons at pick three.
A ruck/forward hybrid, Jackson has been touted as the best key position prospect in the draft and one Melbourne is quite interested in.
“The more people you speak to and hear from about (pick three), they think that Luke Jackson is right in the mix,” Twomey told SEN Breakfast.
“I’m not a big fan of rucks. I think you can buy them later, but they do say this guy is a special talent and he is because we’ve seen what he can do across the year.
“He’s a Brodie Grundy type of ruckman, he follows up, he spins out of traffic, he’s great at ground level and above his head.
“He’s come from a basketball background. He played for Australia at the under 18 World Cup last year, then made a decision to stick with footy.
“He’s improved hugely this year and he’s definitely in the mix with the Dees.”
Melbourne already boasts a dual All-Australian ruckman in Max Gawn, but recruiters reportedly believe he could be successful as a key forward.
“Maybe they see the value of a really great ruckman and he probably starts his career as a forward,” Twomey said.
“I spoke to a recruiter last week who said he goes in as a forward and would be a better player than Sam Weideman straight away.”
The Demons hold pick eight in the draft as well as three, giving them one of the strongest draft hands.
