Lions announce more list changes ahead of next month's draft

2019-10-31T15:20+11:00

The Brisbane Lions have announced further changes on list lodgement deadline day.

Sam Skinner, Corey Lyons, Matt Eagles and Archie Smith have all been let go by the club.

General Manager of Football David Noble said that the changes were important to ensure the club has the best chance to obtain talent in the draft.

“We want to continue to strengthen our list at the upcoming draft, so believe this change is necessary,” Noble said to the club website.

“The Club will aim to explore its Academy and father-son options at the upcoming draft, so will require capacity to do so.

“We do intend to recommit the players either on the senior or rookie list following the draft and we will seek permission from the AFL for the players to attend training and meetings as scheduled.”

Eagles is the most notable of these delistings with the defender having won Foxtel’s The Recruit in order to earn his place on the Lions list. He made his AFL debut in 2018, playing four games before an injury put him out for the season.

Smith is also a curious case as the ruckman had two years left on his contract but indicated a desire to try his luck as a delisted free agent.
