Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves says the club is mostly happy with their fixture for 2020, but have taken issue with having a home game at Marvel Stadium.
His team will host Carlton at Marvel Stadium on the Sunday of Round 5, alongside their MCG and UTAS Stadium games.
Reeves says they do not consider Docklands a home venue and have made this clear to the AFL.
“That’s the one (we’re not happy with). It’s a home game of ours. We don’t consider Marvel Stadium to be a home ground,” he told SEN’s the Captain’s Run.
“We’ve got two home grounds. We like to have four in Tasmania and seven at the MCG.
“That was one of the things we said we didn’t want and so we are disappointed with that. That’s happened every year. It used to be you play one home game at Marvel every second year, but the last few years we’ve landed a (home) game there ever year, that’s certainly the one thing we have taken umbrage with the AFL.
“We will certainly continue that discussion to avoid those in the future.”
Reeves added they worked closely with the AFL on the fixturing, given their issues in 2019 with the amount of Sunday afternoon games they received.
“You always want the best and the ideal, but I think it’s a very difficult thing the fixture and where we’ve landed, we’re pretty happy which gives our members pretty good options across the year,” he said.
“Last year we had what we would consider a challenging fixture. We were pretty vocal about it.
“The AFL sends out a request and you come up with three or four things you would ideally like and three or four things you would like to avoid.
“We did that, but because of the publicity of it last year we were definitely onto it earlier and we worked with the AFL pretty closely and where it has landed is pretty good.”
