Ex-VFL defender re-signs with Fremantle

2019-11-19T12:50+11:00

Luke Ryan has extended his Fremantle contract by a further three years.

Ryan, who had a year remaining on his current deal, will remain a Docker until at least the end of 2023.

Recruited from VFL club Coburg, Ryan has thrived in the step up to AFL level, emerging as an effective intercept defender.

“I’m very excited to stay with Fremantle,” Ryan told fremantlefc.com.au.

“I’ve got my family back home but when I spoke to them, we came to the conclusion that Fremantle gave me my chance - if it wasn’t for Fremantle, I probably wouldn’t have been playing AFL.

“(Before) I was called out with pick 66, I felt it was my last chance and, luckily enough, they called me. I owe it to Fremantle and what they’ve done for me, so I wanted to sign on.”

Ryan, 23, is scheduled to play his 50th game in Round 1 against Essendon next year.
