How Webb became aware of Blues interest

2019-11-19T13:33+11:00

Delisted Bulldog Lukas Webb is attempting to earn a second chance on an AFL list, training with Carlton in the lead up to the Pre-Season Draft.

The former second round draft pick was delisted after 24 games and has been dealt one of the toughest injury runs of any player.

Webb said he only had one day to prepare for his start at Ikon Park having found out on his way to the races.

“Training with the Blues has been good. I’ve been thrown in the deep end a little bit, but I only found out on Saturday afternoon before last Monday that I was coming in to train, but the boys have been awesome,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“I was walking into the racetrack because it’s that time of the year and got a phone call from my manager saying Carlton are pretty keen to have you train.

“My manager said I would be in at 7:30am the next day and here we are one week in.”

Webb broke his leg at Bulldogs training in May and has only just returned to running.

“I’m probably a little bit behind the eight-ball at the moment, but they knew that before I came in and they allowed me to train,” he said.

“I got the pins out about seven weeks ago and I’ve only just started running again.

“It’s still a long time to the season if I am lucky enough to get a spot on the list. I haven’t really thought that far ahead.

“I’m just trying to prove my case on a face to face value and get my fitness up. I haven’t thought too much about where I’m going to be playing, I’m just giving myself the best chance to get on the list.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed his time at Carlton, praising the environment of the club.

“They’ve got a really relaxed vibe and that’s what I like about the place. They’re such a good group of young fellas who have reached out to me and looked after me so it hasn’t been too confronting in a sense,” he said.
