The two young Blues who could have breakout 2020 seasons

2019-11-19T17:04+11:00

Carlton backline coach Dale Amos believes two young midfielders are potential breakout candidates for the 2020 season.

Zac Fisher has now got 55 games under his belt after being taken with pick 27 in the 2016 National Draft.

He has impressed greatly as both an inside midfielder and with his class and finishing on the outside.

Amos has liked what he’s seen from the 21-year-old early.

“There’s probably two that have jumped out. Zac Fisher has come back in really good shape,” he told SEN Drive.

“He looks really strong and in really good shape ready to start to elevate himself.”

Will Setterfield meanwhile played 18 games in 2019, despite a heavily interrupted pre-season.

After arriving at the Blues from GWS, the young midfielder spent the majority of the off-season getting back to fitness following an ACL tear.

Amos said Setterfield is almost unrecognisable 12 months down the track.

“Will Setterfield off the back of joining us after having done his ACL looks like a different athlete to what he was 12 months ago,” he said.

“Those guys have done all the work to put themselves in position to have a great pre-season. Typically that transfers into a big season.”

Eyes will be on Mitch McGovern this pre-season following an injury interrupted year, which led to the key forward carrying more weight than he should have across the season.

“Mitch is in good shape. He’s a real power athlete, Mitch. He’s building up his resilience to be able to cope with what he’s capable of being able to do physically,” Amos said.

“He’s ready to attack the pre-season and is in really good shape.”
