UPDATE

Jose Mourinho is Tottenham's new head coach on a contract that runs until the end of the 2022/2023 season.

“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football," chairman Daniel Levy told tottenhamhotspur.com.au.

He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

Mourinho is looking forward to the challange of improving a Spurs squad sitting 14th in the Premier League.

“I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters," Mourinho said.

The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

EARLIER

Jose Mourinho has emerged as the favourite to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham's next manager.

Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano is reporting Mourinho to Spurs is "totally confirmed" with both parties finalising contractual details.

Another report from Sky Sports indicated a deal could be confirmed by as early as Wednesday.

The Portuguese is keen on a Premier League return following his sacking from Manchester United last December.

Mourinho has won 25 major honours including three Premier League titles with Chelsea and two Champions League crowns with FC Porto and Inter Milan.

Pochettino was removed by Tottenham after guiding the club to a first Champions League final last season.

The Argentine failed to deliver any silverware in his five-and-a-half years in north London.

Tottenham currently sit 14th with just three wins from 12 games.
