Cornes names the 6 teams that can and can’t win the 2020 flag

2019-12-02T09:11+11:00

Kane Cornes has named the teams he believes can and cannot win the 2020 AFL premiership.

With the trade period and draft now complete, club lists are basically finalised for season 2020, bar the potential to bring in players via the supplemental selection period.

Cornes feels only six teams are capable of triumphing next year, while naming the six teams that can’t win and six that are in the finals mix.

The 6 teams that can win the 2020 premiership:

Geelong

“Even though they lost Tim Kelly, one of the best midfielders in the competition.

“They get Jack Steven, he’s got rid of that pot belly, he looks fit. (Josh) Jenkins will be handy. (Patrick) Dangerfield, (Joel) Selwood and (Tom) Hawkins still with some good footy left.

“I know their finals record is poor but I still think they can win the flag.”

GWS Giants

“GWS can win it, no doubt.

“They got (Sam) Jacobs in, Callan Ward back, get Toby Greene and Josh Kelly fit, Jeremy Cameron is in his prime. They got two further top-10 draft picks to add to their talent.

“(Stephen) Coniglio fit, Giants can win it.”

Richmond

“Richmond can clearly win it. They’re in as good a shape as any team in recent memory to go back-to-back.”

West Coast

“The addition of Tim Kelly maybe gives them the best midfield in the comp.

“Jack Darling is emerging as one of, if not, the best high key forward in the game.

“Highly dependent on the fitness of (Nic) Naitanui, Josh Kennedy and Jeremy McGovern just how far West Coast can go.”

Collingwood

“Can win. They’ll be thereabouts.”

Western Bulldogs

“They have a list capable of winning it.

“Josh Bruce and Alex Keath plug some holes for them and their midfield is as good as any in the game.”
