Bancroft axed from Test squad ahead of New Zealand series

2019-12-03T09:45+11:00

Australia have opted for one change to their 13-man squad for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.

Cameron Bancroft, who didn’t play any part of the 2-0 series win against Pakistan, wasn’t included as selectors opted for an unchanged team during the two matches.

Pacemen James Pattinson and Michael Neser remain in the squad should changes be required later in the highly anticipated three-test series against the Kiwis.

Chief selector Trevor Hohns said he was determined to back the current team to replicate their strong start to the home summer in the coming weeks.

"We are backing the current batting line-up to continue their form across the next three Tests," he said.

"Whilst not a part of this squad, Cameron Bancroft remains one of the standby players.

"Similarly, depending on conditions, we reserve the right to add a player to the squad at any time during the series."

The first Test begins on December 12 at Optus Stadium, with the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and traditional New Year’s Test in Sydney to follow.
