Former Cat and Bomber lands at third club

2019-12-03T13:48+11:00

Former Geelong and Essendon forward Mitch Brown will continue his AFL career at a third club.

Brown has joined Melbourne as a rookie for the 2020 season via the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period after being invited to train with the Demons during the pre-season.

The 29-year-old booted 21 goals in 16 games for the Bombers last season but was a surprise delisting in October.

Melbourne General Manager of Football Operations Josh Mahoney says Brown will strenghten the club’s key position stocks.

“We are pleased to officially welcome Mitch to Melbourne through the SSP and have him join us as a rookie for this season,” Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

“Mitch has shown great resilience throughout his career, and is a skilful, versatile player who has proven he is capable of having an impact at AFL level.

“We feel his experience at both ends of the ground and his elite endurance will make him a great addition to our list.

“We are confident Mitch will transition smoothly into our football program.”

Brown has played 70 AFL games since he went at pick No.15 in the 2008 draft.

Ex-Sun and Docker Harley Bennell is also training with Melbourne in the hope of being thrown an AFL lifeline.
