Lions extend training invite to Power premiership player

2019-12-04T12:03+11:00

Kane Cornes has received an invitation from the Brisbane Lions.

After Lachie Neale responded to Cornes’ comments about the Lions potentially slipping in 2020, the Lions midfielder sent the Port Adelaide premiership player a text.

The quotes had found their way to Brisbane and fell in the lap of coach Chris Fagan who was not all that happy with the assessment so the idea evolved to get Cornes involved in Brisbane’s pre-season camp.

Cornes has revealed that the Lions are keen to give him a first-hand account of what is happening at the revitalised club which is an opportunity he is keen to explore.

“What they have done, which I love and appreciate, the Brisbane Lions have extended their hand and an invitation for me to join them on their pre-season camp in January and have a look at how they go about things,” he said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“I’m not sure the ins and outs of it, I only was granted the invite yesterday.

“They have invited me to make sure that I can go up there and have a look about the way they are training and to witness the fact they are not getting ahead of themselves.

“They were quite offended by my comments, it’s fair to say, and they are pretty strong on the fact that they are going to go to the next level. They will not be getting ahead of themselves, they’re working and training hard, they want me to witness it.

“That’s their pre-season camp in January. I’d love to go, I’m not sure the logistics of it with work, but it would be great. I think it would be an unbelievable opportunity to go up there.

“It’s been five or six years since I’ve been involved in the AFL system so to go up there and have a look at how the modern teams go about it, I’d love to go.

“We’ll work it out. I think I’ll be able to head up there for a couple of days at least and check it out.

“But fair to say they weren’t happy.”
