Australian cricket great Ricky Ponting has named his top five most memorable Test innings in Australia.

Speaking to cricket.com.au, Ponting rated the best five knocks on Aussie soil from both teammates and opponents during his stellar 168-Test career.

1. Adam Gilchrist 149* v Pakistan at Hobart (1999/00)

"It was a match-winning hundred. It was the last innings of the game; we were down and out. It’s definitely the best innings I’ve seen in Australia."

2. Brian Lara 226 v Australia at Adelaide (2005/06)

"I remember walking past him and saying: ‘Brian, play a shot at least, get on with it, you’re boring us'. In the next hour and a half, he got about 150. He is probably the best player of spin I’ve ever seen."

3. Michael Clarke 230 v South Africa at Adelaide (2012/13)

“Michael Clarke was at the absolute peak of his powers. It’s some of the cleanest hitting and cleanest batting you will ever see.”

4. Kevin Pietersen 227* v Australia at Adelaide (2010/11)

“Super innings, a breath of fresh air really for English cricket to see someone come out and play the way that he did, and he turned out to be one of England’s best ever Test players.”

5. Sachin Tendulkar 241* v Australia at Sydney (2003/04)

“We got him out cover driving quite a few times during the series; caught behind and caught in the slips. We went to Sydney and he got 241 and he didn’t play a cover drive. That was a sensational innings.”
