Hazlewood hamstring injury confirmed

2019-12-14T15:35+11:00

UPDATE: Hazlewood has been ruled out. He will not bowl for the remainder of the Perth test and is now in doubt for Boxing Day.

Injury has left a sour note on what was a dominant day for the Australian cricket team.

Josh Hazlewood suffered a left hamstring injury just 1.2 overs into his first spell, with the extent of the damage currently unknown.

The quick had gotten off to a strong start too, bowling Kiwi opener Jeet Raval in his first over.

AUSSIES IN DOMINANT POSITION IN PERTH

If he is unable to bowl, Australia would be in a dicey position given the extreme heat in Perth.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon will be put to the test with the increased workload, while we have already seen Matthew Wade roll the arm over to help fill the void.

Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Travis Head can all competently bowl part-time spin which gives the Aussies a few options to take the load off the others.

Both teams are a bowler down, with New Zealand losing debutant Lockie Ferguson to a calf injury.
