Melbourne Aces suffer series defeat away from home to Adelaide

2019-12-16T10:55+11:00

The Melbourne Aces fell to a 3-1 series defeat away to the Adelaide Giants in the Australian Baseball League over the weekend.

Melbourne’s first away series since the beginning of the season was also their first series loss, mustering just the solitary win with the series already out of reach on Saturday night.

Adelaide snatched victory on Friday night, scoring three runs in the final inning for a come-from-behind 4-3 win. Quincy Latimore was the standout for the Aces with three hits including a single and double which led to runs.

The first game of the Saturday doubleheader failed to match the excitement of Friday with the Giants recording a 1-0 win. The sole run to Rixon Wingrove came courtesy of a Curtis Mead double. Melbourne managed six hits to Adelaide’s four but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard.

Melbourne were completely dominant later that evening with a 5-1 victory. The Aces had 12 hits with Latimore once again registering three, including the single in the first inning that allowed Yuma Mune home and the Aces to get off to a strong start.

A Delmon Young homerun wasn’t enough for the Aces to get the job done on Sunday as the Giants prevailed 9-7. Melbourne lead 6-1 early but Adelaide fought back; Jordan McArdle the hero with a walk-off home run the gave Adelaide the win.

Melbourne return home to face Geelong-Korea in a Victorian Derby at Melbourne Ballpark this weekend.
