Adam Cooney has named his top 5 players of the last decade.

Taking into account output since the beginning of the 2010 season, the 2008 Brownlow Medal winner and former Western Bulldogs and Essendon midfielder has assessed who he thinks have been the best handful of players in the AFL.

See Cooney’s top 5 of the decade below:

1. Gary Ablett

“For overall consistency, Ablett is number one over the last decade.

“If you are a pure football lover, it’s almost impossible to have Gary out of the top three.”

2. Lance Franklin

“Favourite player to watch, the most entertaining player in the game .”

3. Dustin Martin

“People will accuse me of recency bias but overall his 10 years are nothing to be sneezed at.

“Two Norm Smith medals, two flags, a Brownlow, his precise field kicking and he’s kicked 250 goals.”

4. Luke Hodge

5. Scott Pendlebury

“Five best and fairests, six All-Australians.”

SEN Summer Breakfast co-host Jack Heverin also named his top 5 of the decade:

1. Gary Ablett

“I had Buddy at one first, it took me a while to split the two.

“I do love watching Gazza in full flight.”

2. Lance Franklin

3. Luke Hodge

“Three flags, all of them as captain, Norm Smith medal, two All-Australians and a club best and fairest.

“How many big games did Hodge not have an influence in?”

4. Dustin Martin

5. Patrick Dangerfield

“His Brownlow just pushed him slightly ahead (of Pendlebury).”
