Why Adam Cooney doesn't regret his time at Essendon

2019-12-24T09:50+11:00

Adam Cooney says he doesn’t regret his short stint at Essendon after a 219-game career at the Western Bulldogs.

The 2008 Brownlow left Whitten Oval to take up an offer from the Bombers at the end of 2014, which saw him play 31 games and kick 16 goals in the red and black between 2015 and 2016.

But despite his two-year stint at the club being at the height of the drugs scandal, Cooney said it was still a worthwhile experience.

“No, not at all,” he said on SEN Summer Breakfast when asked if he regretted his decision to move.

“If I was going to (not take up the offer at Essendon), I wouldn’t have played any more footy and the offer kept me out of the real world (for two more years).

“Just the experience of playing at a different club was invaluable for me, I really enjoyed my time there.

“I played 31 games for three wins (at Essendon), not a lot of success on field but I met some fantastic people at the Bombers.

“I don’t regret it at all because to be honest, I didn’t have much choice.”
