Sydney Swans favourite to play for the Roosters

2020-01-17T13:02+11:00

Nick Davis is set to don Sydney Roosters colours in 2020.

The Sydney Swans hero will play for the Roosters in this year’s NRL Nines tournament which takes place on February 14-15 at HBF Park in Perth.

The dynamic 168-game forward, who helped the Swans to the 2005 premiership and also played for Collingwood, is aware returning to the professional footy scene will not be easy.

“Rugby league was one of the sports I played growing up, and I’ve always followed the game, so when I first had the chat with Trent (Robinson) about playing with the Roosters at the Nines, it was an easy yes straight away,” 39-year-old Davis told roosters.com.au.

“I’m under no illusion about how tough it's going to be, but I’ve been training for a few months now and I’m really looking forward to getting out there with the boys. I’ll definitely be giving it a red-hot crack.”

Davis is the Talent and Development Manager for the Swans Academy and also spent part of last season working with back-to-back NRL premiers the Roosters.

Head coach Robinson was grateful to the Swans for allowing the code switch to take place.

“While Nick was keen to be part of our Nines team, his participation wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Sydney Swans who are Nick’s primary employer, so I’d really like to extend our thanks to the Swans as well,” said Robinson.

Davis will forever be remember for his bag of four goals in the final quarter as the Swans came from behind to beat Geelong in the '05 Preliminary Final. Sydney would go on to break a 72-year premiership drought by knocking off West Coast in the Grand Final.
