David King is not expecting Brodie Grundy’s monster deal to have a negative impact on Collingwood’s salary cap.
The Magpies last week tied down the star ruckman to a seven-year contract at around $1 million per year which attracted differing opinions in the footy media.

King understands both sides of the argument, but ultimately feels Collingwood did what any other club in their position would have done.
“The bottom line is, you don’t allow your stars to leave,” the two-time North Melbourne premiership player said on SEN Breakfast.
“The good clubs hang onto their stars and that’s what Collingwood have done.
“Is it more than what they wanted? Probably. Has he got an extra one or two years? Probably.
“But I don’t think it will affect their pay structure going forward.”
When asked by co-host Sam Edmund what it means for the likes of Jordan de Goey, Darcy Moore and Scott Pendlebury (who are all out of contact this year) and Jaidyn Stephenson (2021), King has confidence that the Pies would have their business in order.
“They’ll find money for De Goey,” he added.
“Stephenson will come out of contact and he’ll cost a pretty penny.
“There’s salary slides towards the end and he (Pendlebury) knows that. He’s been well paid for a long period of time and he’ll be ready for that.”
The Magpies open their Marsh Community series campaign against Richmond in Wangaratta on Sunday, March 1.
