Terry Wallace names the flakiest side in the AFL

2020-01-20T12:04+11:00

Australian Football Hall of Famer Terry Wallace says there’s no team with a bigger gap between their best and worst footy in the AFL than Essendon.

The Bombers have played patches of breathtaking football in recent seasons but haven’t won a final since 2004, nor finished higher on the ladder than seventh since 2002.

Wallace said that he still goes to Essendon games and doesn’t know what to expect.

“Right where we sit at the moment, I think the flakiest side in the AFL from the most recent couple of seasons is Essendon,” he said on SEN Mornings.

“I go to Essendon games and I don’t know what I’m going to get – I can go along and suddenly they’re on and I see brilliance. Running half backs charging down the ground, they’re playing exhilarating football and Fantasia and McDonald-Tipugwuti up the other end kicking goals.

“They can play scintillating footy and then I can go along and see them play at Marvel Stadium where they kick the first goal of the game and the Bulldogs kick the next 20.

“The difference between their good and bad is a wider gap than any other side in AFL.”

Essendon get their pre-season campaign underway against West Coast on February 27.
