Rory Sloane explains logic behind new leadership group

2020-01-23T10:04+11:00

Adelaide captain Rory Sloane says the club’s new leadership group is a nod to the future.

Daniel Talia and former co-captain Taylor Walker were left out of the Crows’ five-man leadership group for 2020, with the club opting to promote Tom Doedee and Brodie Smith instead.

Sloane said it was a decision made with one eye the future but would still allow both Talia and Walker to provide guidance during matches.

“(Walker and Talia) featured heavily in the (leadership group) votes,” he said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“This is probably the ultimate sign of great leadership – they didn’t feel like they needed a title to lead this year. They’ll still play huge leadership roles at the footy club this year but without title.

“It’s the ultimate sign of great leadership from those two and that’s what we want this group to be about is to be making decisions that are best for other people inside the footy club.

“They both thought it was really important to elevate a couple of young guys in Brodie Smith, Matt Crouch and Tom Doedee, they guys are really great leader and they’re going to be around for a bit longer than the older boys.

“It’s important to leave this club in their hands afterwards (when we retire).”
