Majak Daw’s AFL return promises to be one of the feel-good stories of the 2020 season.
In December 2018, the North Melbourne defender required rescuing following an incident at the Bolte Bridge that saw him sustain serious pelvic and hip injuries.
After a long road to recovery, Daw returned to football via the VFL last July and will look to complete his comeback at AFL level this upcoming campaign.
Having played in Jason McCartney's inspiration and emotionally charged return game after the Bali bombings, Kangaroos great David King can’t wait to see the reception the 28-year-old receives when he resumes his AFL career.
“I don’t think he is absolutely in the best 22 right now, he is going to have to work his way back in,” King told SEN Breakfast.
“But it will be the biggest home-and-away game we’ve seen when he plays, there’s no doubt about that.
“The Jason McCartney game; 88/202 of the Bali bombings back in 2003 was the biggest home-and-away game that I was part of - the emotion that night at Telstra Dome was unreal.
“I think it will be the same. The cause now that Majak is championing is real and I think when Majak plays, look out.”
The last of Daw’s 50 AFL games came in Round 23, 2018.
